Gay Star Interviews with Matt the Great!

Recently I had a chance to talk to Dawson Riley, one of Randy Blue’s newest and hottest models. Only being in the porn industry for less than six months Dawson has made a big splash with his boy-next-door charm and stunning good looks. MATT: Hey Dawson, how are you?

DAWSON: Hey, I’m actually really good. how are you?

MATT: I appreciate you taking the time to do the interview.

DAWSON: Yeah, anytime. Definitely.

MATT: I understand you’ve been really busy lately.

DAWSON: Yeah, I’ve been all over the place. I’ve been to Hollywood, West Hollywood, I’ve been traveling, got back from Indianapolis about two weeks ago. I was in Colorado for a little while, and now I’m back in the town where my family lives now in Arizona. So, it’s pretty nice to get away from the crowd just for a little while.

MATT: Did you move back to Arizona or are you just there for a little while?

DAWSON: I’m back and forth. But for right now I’m just chilling out and waiting for my next scene which is going to be in January.

MATT: Well, it’s always nice to get back with family for a little while.

DAWSON: Exactly, especially during the holiday season. It’s good.

MATT: I heard something interesting. You had an ex-girlfriend that got you into gay porn. Is that true?

DAWSON: Actually, yeah, that’s true.

MATT: How did that happen?

DAWSON: She was really into two guys doing stuff together and she was like, “you really should do it and make some really good money at it.” I was like, “well, I don’t know.” She was like, “well, you’re into other guys.” And I’m not afraid to do stuff with other guys and she knew that and she got turned on by it. It’s good to keep sexual desires alive and I’m more of a giver than a receiver. That’s pretty much how my whole career in the industry started.

MATT: That’s the first I’ve ever heard of that. I’m sure you’ve been asked this a hundred times, but do you consider yourself to be gay or bi?

DAWSON: It’s a good mix of both. My preference is, if you have a good personality it doesn’t matter who you are, you know what I mean? I’m a good-hearted guy just like the guy next door. When it comes to sex I’m just naturally really horny. So, it’s all good.  I’m actually talking to you right now from local video store. I’m in the adult section. It’s really funny.

MATT: That is really funny. Is this a good time to talk?

DAWSON: Oh, it’s perfect. I’m just walking around looking at movies and stuff.

MATT: Well, you’re in the adult section, so it’s OK.

DAWSON: Yeah, this is awesome.

MATT: So how did you get hooked up with Randy Blue?

DAWSON: How did I get hooked up with Randy Blue? I went through Fierce Scouting. I contacted him and said I was interested in doing porn. He had no idea what I looked like when I contacted him. It was just via text message when I got a hold of him. And he was like, “Well, send me some pictures and I’ll tell you where you should go.” So I sent him some pictures and he fell in love with it and he was like, “You’re perfect for Randy Blue.” Coming from where I live I didn’t watch too much porn. Pretty much whatever I wanted I got it, like any sort of action at all, so I didn’t really need to watch a lot of porn just to get off. So, I did my research and saw Randy’s website and fell in love with it. I thought it was really professional and I’ve been happy ever since working with them.

MATT: That’s great! You really just started this year.

DAWSON: Yeah, I’ve literally only been in the industry about six months now.

MATT: You’ve made a really big impact so far.

DAWSON: It’s only been six months. I only have about four or five films out and I’m just moving. I have a pretty nice fan base on Myspace, Twitter and Facebook. You know, I just love interacting with my fans and showing them a little bit of what my personal life is like. That’s the biggest thing, you see a lot of what I do on Randy Blue but do a lot of guys see the real character behind the actor, do you know what I mean? So that’s biggest the part that I really want my fans to see, how I am personally. I think that’s a big plus in how big I’ve gotten in the industry, just showing them how I am and they just fell in love with my personality and it’s just gotten really big.

MATT: You really do come across as a down-to-earth guy. It’s not like the overnight success has gone to your head.

DAWSON: No, not at all.

MATT: Is there anything that you have not done on film that you would like to do? Any kind of fetishes or kinks or anything like that?

DAWSON: Well, me personally, I like to have a lot of fun. I have a website that’s going to be going up soon. I don’t know, there’s so much stuff to do, the market’s huge. I really want to target every type of adult industry type of gig, whether it’s from a little bit of fetish for those who like fetish to… I don’t know, I want to give a little piece of me to every type of crowd there is. So that’s where it stands right now.

MATT: You also have your own blog at www.dawsonriley.com. What can fans find on your blog?

DAWSON: I haven’t actually updated it in a while, but they’ll find just a lot of my personal daily activities. Just fun little things I do throughout the day, updates on my life. Nothing to big.

MATT: You’re really into motocross.

DAWSON: Yeah I am actually.

MATT: Do you race?

DAWSON: I used to race. It’s a lot of fun.

MATT: What other sports are you into?

DAWSON: I grew up playing baseball, football and wrestling. I was really big in baseball. Before I threw out my rotatetor cuff I was actually being scouted to go pro in baseball, but that pretty much went down the drain with my shoulder.

MATT: So, as far as your porn career, where do you see yourself going? Is this something long-term for you?

DAWSON: Yeah, I mean I’m definitely in it for the long run. Right now I’m pretty much exclusive with Randy Blue but I have offers from a lot of the major DVD companies for porn industry. I actually get offers from both straight and gay porn, which is really nice because I know that there’s a good market for a good guy like me. But I just look forward to doing a lot more DVD work as well after I get done doing online. So you might see me on some box covers coming up.

MATT: Now, what about your workout routine? You stay pretty regimented.

DAWSON: I try to hit the gym every day. Before I started in porn I was really focused on just trying to get my body into tip-top shape; I really wanted to come out with a bang. My workout routine before I started in the industry was pretty much two work outs a day, three hours in the morning and three hours at night. I split it up, so when I go in the morning I try to target an hour’s worth of cardio and an hour’s worth of abs, then try to do split it up and do the upper body in the morning and then  for the evening I would do an hour’s worth of cardio again, an hour’s worth of abs and then instead off doing my upper body again, I do my legs. So altogether I’ve got about a six hour workout a day before I started in the industry because I wanted to get my body really good.

MATT: Well, you’ve definitely done that.

DAWSON: Thank you. I mean, with porn you get a lot of guys that show up on set and all they think about is fucking, you know what I mean? What I really want to bring out and show is that true emotion, I really want to show a lot of sensual love making. That’s what I really want to show because fucking is fun, but I really want to make it more of a reality type of video, more realistic. Because not a lot of porn is as realistic as we want it to be anymore and that’s the flavor that I want to put in. And I think that’s the reason I’ve done so well so quickly is just the fact that I want to make it more realistic and have more fun with it.

MATT: It’s funny you brought up the emotional part of it. What were your emotions like when you first started? Was it more nervousness, more anxiety, what were your emotions?

DAWSON: My emotions… I was really anxious. I wanted to see myself progress really quick. But as I started networking and meeting a lot more stars and them being the age that they are, I have a long time in this industry and there is no rush. The videos that I make are going to be phenomenal because I’ll have a fan base that wants to watch me and not just how I look on a certain day. I’ve played around with my hairstyles a little bit and my fans love me for me, and that’s the really cool part. I don’t get a lot of harsh criticism at all actually. When I see a lot of these other stars on Twitter they get a lot of negative feedback and you see them writing about how certain people are jackasses and stuff like that. My fan base, I’ve noticed, is really classy because they like me for me and I’ve shown them my true emotions and how I actually am. I try to keep drama-free as much as I can and it works. It’s probably one of the biggest blessings I have is being in the porn industry.

MATT: You’re right and that’s pretty smart. That has been the downfall of a lot of porn stars, their tendency to create a lot of drama. Now, you’re just 18 right now, right?

DAWSON: Exactly.

MATT: So you do have a nice long career ahead of you.

DAWSON: Yeah, you look at all these porn stars, they’re in their mid to late twenties. Some of the oldest porn stars, if you look at Rob Romoni, he’s almost in his forties.

MATT: Yeah, I believe he’s 38.

DAWSON: It just depends on how you market yourself and take care of yourself and keep your head on straight. And that’s what I really try to do. A lot of people look at it as maturity level rather than just doing porn. It depends on how you take care of yourself, that’s what gets you by.

MATT: So, outside of porn who is the real Dawson Riley? What are your hobbies? I think people are just as interested in that as they are your porn work.

DAWSON: Outside of porn I’m just your guy next door. I like to hang out with friends and just kick back. Every now and then drink illegally and just kick it, you know what I mean? I don’t get into a lot of trouble. I’ve got my head on my shoulders. I’m a family guy, I love to hang out and kick it with the family and every now and then go horseback riding. I used to do a bit of bull riding as well.

MATT: Really?

DAWSON: Yeah, my family’s got a ranch out in Texas and I did a little bit of bull riding out there. It’s fun. Whenever I go back I like to hop on and give it a shot again.

MATT: I would not have seen that one coming.

DAWSON: Don’t let this pretty little face fool you.

MATT: Damn, I forgot what I was going to ask you next. That bull riding threw me right off.

DAWSON: It’s alright. Not a lot of people expect that. I should post a picture of me doing it on Twitter.

MATT: You really should. I have to see that.

DAWSON: Alright, I’ll get a hold of it.

MATT: What was your family’s reaction when they found out you’re doing porn?

DAWSON: It’s only been six months and a lot of people try to cover it up by saying, “I’m going to hang out with friends,” or, “We’re going on a road trip,” blah blah blah. My philosophy on life is I live with no regrets and everything that happens happens for a reason. I wasn’t going to go off living a double life. I pretty much told my family straight up that I’m a gay porn star. At first they were like any family, they were a little shocked, but they love me for me and they don’t want to lose the relationship or ex me out of the family or anything like that. They know my personality, they know that the economy alone is a really hard place to live in right now and the respect me for trying to make it in a really hard world. So, it’s really nice.

MATT: If you were not doing porn what do you think you would be doing right now?

DAWSON: I actually would continue my career in the fire department.

MATT: I read something about that. Were you a volunteer fire fighter?

DAWSON: Search and rescue. I can still do it. It’s not like they still won’t take me. I’m actually a sixth generation fire, so it definitely runs in the blood. It just on hold for right now. I mean I’m having fun with my porn career and looking for just a fun part-time job to keep me busy. Money wise  the porn is amazing. It’s phenomenal, I have no complaints there but I just like to stay busy. The human body’s not meant to sit around and do nothing. I work out and go to the gym and come home and talk to a lot of my fans and have a lot of spare time, so I’m looking to have a part-time job, so I’m looking to get something in the nutritional area selling beneficial health  care supplements, so we’ll see what happens there. I’m just letting life coast right now. I’m in no hurry. It’s good. It’s really good. I’m really good at selling things to people. I’ve actually had a couple of adult signings at a couple of adult store, and along with the signings customers have asked me what my personal advice on a couple of sex toys and what-not. And so I gave some of my advice and actually sold about $500 worth of products.

MATT: Maybe that’s the business you need to go into, selling sex toys.

DAWSON: I would be good at selling some good sex equipment, I tell ya. If it’s from nipple clamps to Magnums and XL condoms to lube to Fleshlites or Fleshjacks, I could tell you how good it feels and explain it to you and you would just go nuts. It’s awesome. I love seeing the smile on people’s faces when they walk out and they were like, “Yes, I can’t wait to use this.” It’s so cool. I love it.

MATT: Tell me about your personal appearances. Do you do quite a few personal appearances?

DAWSON: Every now and then I do. When I was living in the West Hollywood area I made a lot of appearances. I would come out and do a lot of promotional modeling for Manhunt.net as well as Malematch.com, so whatever I could do. I’m hopefully going to be doing a lot of appearances quite a few Pride parades with Randy Blue this year.

MATT: Oh, that would be great for you.

DAWSON: Yeah, that’ll be really fun. I love to interact with people. That’s my biggest fix. Not only having sex on camera, but hanging out with fans and just talking and really having a good time. You know that’s the biggest thing. I love being social, I’m a social person.

MATT: Is there anything that you want to say to your fans?

DAWSON: Pretty much I just really want to thank them for being really sweet and really awesome and enjoying my work. Without their support and a lot of their love my character wouldn’t be who he is. That’s a guarantee. Just look forward for a lot more scenes with me coming out.
