Lucky Daniels may be one of the most unlikely models I have ever had the pleasure of interviewing. He has a heart of gold and gets the most pleasure out of inspiring others. Not only is he drop-dead gorgeous and extremely talented as a porn star, but his personal life is even more fascinating. You can follow Lucky on Twitter at http://twitter.com/luckydaniels69 and on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/luckydaniels69.

MATT: Hey Lucky! How are you?

LUCKY: Hey Matt! How are you doing?

MATT: Good. Have you been doing alright?

LUCKY: Yeah, yeah, just really busy. This is a busy time of the year.

MATT: Well, the first question I have to ask you is how the hell do you put up with Rob [Romoni]?

LUCKY: Oh my God. It’s really funny because me and him met for the first time at the Grabbys this year and it was so funny because I ended up moving to LA right after the Grabbys. I didn’t even realize he lived in LA until a couple of weeks after I moved out here. And we ended up hanging out a lot because of our mutual friends are like Scott Tanner, Adam Killian… so we ended up becoming best friends.

MATT: Where did you move from originally?

LUCKY: Wisconsin.

MATT: How did you start out in the business?

LUCKY: I actually started out working with www.randyblue.com. I was trying to get back into the modeling industry, so I did this search on Google for male modeling and this one site came up called www.chiseledmale.com, and I thought it was like a model recruitment site because I was really naive and it ended up being a recruitment site for www.randyblue.com. Randy called me up and was like, “I really want to work with you and we would like for you to come and shoot a video with us, ” and I was like, “What?!,” and he was like, “Yeah, it’s a gay adult porn site and we want to give you time to think about it to make sure it’s something you want to do and then just get back to us if you want to do it.” And so I thought about it. I actually made a pro and con list, and after I went through everything I could possibly think of I ended up doing it because to me the pros outweighed the cons. The cons that I had written down… I realized that no matter what decisions you make in your life you have to make sure you are willing to take the bad with the good. So, I made sure it was something I wanted to do and now it’s been almost three years later.

MATT: And it’s still going pretty good for you.

LUCKY: Yeah, I took a little bit of a break over the summer because there were so many movies that I had done. I just started doing the DVD movies last July and a big string of them started coming out around April or May, so until a few weeks ago I had taken off for the summer.

MATT: How many DVD’s have you done so far?

LUCKY: DVD’s, I’ve done eight.

MATT: Now, you’ve worked with Channel 1, Jet Set Men, Colt, Lucas…

LUCKY: I’ve worked for six studios. I’ve worked with Falcon, Jet Set, Channel 1, Buckshot for Colt, Raging Stallions and Lucas Entertainment.

MATT: You’re first DVD release was with Falcon, wasn’t it?

LUCKY: Yeah, I did one with Falcon and that was “The Best Man 2″ which came out last year.

MATT: You’re also a personal trainer too. Tell me about that.

LUCKY: Well, I was training for a gym in Wisconsin, but when I moved out here I was so busy that I just do independent personal training. So, I take on a few clients and help them stay in shape and motivate them. Fun, fun. It’s really interesting because it’s never the same thing all of the time. It’s based on whatever the clients needs are, what goals they want to achieve. You get to be creative in a way and think of ways to motivate them and keep them, keep it fun but still help them achieve the results that they want to obtain.

MATT: Is there any particular area you specialize in?

LUCKY: It’s all around. Like some people focus on certain muscle groups. I focus on the whole body workouts and a little bit with the nutrition side as well.

MATT: Oh, that’s good that you work the nutrition in there. I think a lot of the people leave that out. They focus on muscles or cardio, but they leave the nutrition out.

LUCKY: Oh yeah, it’s the biggest killer for some people. They’ll be good with the cardio and good with the weight training, but when it comes to their eating habits people cave into the peer pressure of going out with friends and eating the crappy food. The thing I tell everyone is “everything in moderation.” If you have bad food it’s not bad, it’s actually good to take one cheat day a weeks, but you just don’t want to have ginormous huge portion sizes, ’cause that’s the thing; if you fast food but eat smaller portions throughout the day, your stomach is only going to get as big as what you put into it, so it doesn’t  expand it as much.

MATT: So you’re saying that me eating a large pizza all at one time is NOT good?

LUCKY: The thing is, if you ate a large pizza, if you made it into four meals and had two slices every two hours that’s better than having one large pizza all at once.

MATT: You’re a candidate for www.menmagazine.com Man of the Year.

LUCKY: Yep, yes I am. I’ve been campaigning heavily for it because I know I’m one of the candidates that doesn’t have the studio backing for the candidacy, and I was also told when I was nominated for it that it’s been won by gay-for-pay or straight guys for the past three or four years. So I’m trying to win it back for the gays.

MATT: Good for you. Win one for the home team.

LUCKY: Yeah, I know. But it’s all in good fun. I put up a video on www.youtube.com of my dog. It was really funny. He was masturbating and we put in little words that said… his name’s Joey, and it says like, “Joey supports his dad for Man of the Year, so go vote.” It’s just fun being creative and trying to get people to get out there and vote.

MATT: When does voting end?

LUCKY: It ends October 31. It’s goes on about two and a half months. It started in the beginning of August, and we’re at the end of September here, so I guess we’re in the last leg of the race coming up here in October.

MATT: Well, we definitely want everyone to go to www.menmagazine.com and vote for you.

LUCKY: Yeah, I appreciate it.

MATT: Something that I heard about you that I found really interesting is that you like Zig Ziglar’s books.

LUCKY: Oh my God, I like Zig Ziglar. One of my all time favorites is Og Mandino.

MATT: Oh my God, are you serious? I love Og Madino’s books.

LUCKY: I read “The Greatest Salesman in the World” and then “The Greatest Secret in the World,” then after those two I bought every book he’s every written. And it always makes me happy because all the books are these crazy colors like turquoise and red and orange, so even if I’m not reading them I’ll look in my bookshelf and see the books, the Og Mandino section, and they’re so colorful. It makes me happy. To me I just feel like… when I was going to school I didn’t like to read that much, and I remember hearing my teachers and professors saying that a lot of people in America waste away their knowledge and don’t utilize what they could be doing to better themselves or live happier lives. And after reading those books, it’s funny because they might not necessarily pertain to the people based on their stories, but it’s the principles and philosophies that are talked about. Between all of these authors that are very similar across the board, if you read them and apply them to your own life it’s amazing how much happier you are in your own life and how much more successful you can be. It’s a really cool feeling. I tell everyone it’s like  for me, it’s like waking up in Christmas morning because you’re so excited about life.

MATT: That’s true. And the thing about those books is every time you read them you get something different out of them every time.

LUCKY: Oh yeah, I think it’s good to re-read them because it all depends on what place you’re at in your life. And If you read them at one point, and then you’ve grown obviously since you read it before and you read it again you can get completely something else out of it.

MATT: So, what is next for you?

LUCKY: Well, I did just shoot a new movie a couple of weeks ago for Colt, their Buckshot. So, I think that will be coming out in the fall and then there’s a potential new reality docudrama that might be happening next month that I might be on. So that might be happening as well. But otherwise I’m getting ready to launch… it’s been postponed a little bit, but I’m getting ready to launch my own e-commerce website. It’s like an online life coach actually, which is inspired by all of the Og Mandino and Zig Ziglar books that I’ve read. It’s going to have on there different exercises you can do each day to keep your inner Zen and make sure you’re on the right track for what you want to do with your life. So I’ve been working on that as well. I’m doing a lot of different things right now, but that’s my main thing as far as work I want to push for in the future is my e-commerce life coach website, and then now that I’m situated out here in LA I’m doing more volunteer work and things like that.

MATT: What type of volunteer work?

LUCKY: I like to do coaching youth soccer and playing cards with the elderly at the nursing homes, and especially now that the holidays are coming up I doing Toy’s for Tots and helping serve food at the food shelter and things like that. For me… people can try to do things and want to be honored and recognized for their good deeds, but for me it makes me genuinely so happy. And I tell people, unless you’re a soulless person, you’re never going to hear someone say, “God, I feel like crap because I helped that person out.” It’s the whole law of… and I’m sure you’ve heard this from all these books, of sewing and reaping, and what you sew in life is what you reap. And it may not be monetary value but just the people you meet and the stories you hear and what you learn, it’s just really, really cool.

MATT: It feels good to know you made a difference in someone else’s life.

LUCKY: Yeah, even if it’s just talking to someone or a smile, it makes me so happy. For my campaign for Man of the Year, I don’t know why any of the other candidates want to win it. I’m like, for me it’s not going to change who I am whether I win it or not. I’m having fun campaigning with it. Me and Rob are having a blast with it actually, and the thing is though, if I did win it I would use it to bring more attention to overturning Prop 8 and helping out with causes like helping out with kids who are displaced by their families when they tell them that they’re gay and things like that.

MATT: That’s impressive. I wish more would give back and become involved in charitable work.

LUCKY: Yeah, I think sometimes people… and I can see it living out here in LA now, it’s easy to do to get caught up with everything that is going on because it is so fast paced, but I think it’s good to try to keep things is check and try to do what you can to help out other people. And I think it makes your successes so much more worth while and valuable if you do that.

MATT: You do quite a bit of dancing as well, don’t you?

LUCKY: Yes I do. It’s funny because I never did any dancing. I remember when I was in high school you were considered to be gay if you danced at high school dances, so I never danced in my life until I started doing movies. I did one event for Randy Blue about six months after I started working with them, and I just started trying to dance to the beat of the music. I’ve been dancing for about maybe going on two years now. I started to incorporate fun things like I just made my dancing my own as far as with props that I use. Sometimes I’ll wear a mask. I was at a garage sale and found a smiley face backpack, so I’ll use that when I dance sometimes, I don’t know. I just have fun with it.

MATT: I had read a little about your dancing. Evidently a lot of people are impressed with your dancing.

LUCKY: I noticed a lot of guys, depending on where I’m dancing, there are a lot of straight jocks that are dancing at the gay clubs for money. But there were a lot of guys that do the little Hawaiian shuffle thing like the bobbles on the cars. It’s like they just sway side to side. I’m like, that’s so boring to me! I don’t judge anyone, I’m not saying anything’s right or wrong, I just like having fun. I just know that for me when I dance it’s like a cardio workout for me because when I’m done I’m sweating profusely. You know, it’s a proven fact that people like to be around people who are happy and having fun, so I just try to make it a fun atmosphere for everyone to have a good time. I know sometimes I don’t make as many tips as some people, but I don’t really care. I just like having my own style for when I dance.

MATT: What is something about you that your fans might be surprised to know about you?

LUCKY: Um… they might be surprised to hear that I enjoy going to church on Sundays. I don’t know, I guess people think that if you do it you that you’re this sex crazed person that does drugs and parties. Some people think that we live these crazy lives, and I don’t know what everybody else is doing in the industry, but for me I guess that I live just a normal, regular life like everybody else. I’m engaged as well.

MATT: That’s terrific! Did you meet him after moving out to California?

LUCKY: Before actually. He’s from Maryland, but he lives out here in California.

MATT: Is there anything that you can tell me about the reality show we talked about earlier?

LUCKY: If this reality show gets picked up there will be a lot of things out in that. What they’re trying to do it pitch it to HBO and Showtime. They’re in talks right now as to what they want to do. They’re coming out to film next month. They shot a promo last month and now they are going to be out to shoot a pilot episode in October and then if Showtime or HBO likes what they see then it will be the series and it will be a new docu-drama. So, it will be a documentary style as far as a look inside the industry and into the lives of a few of us who do porn, and then it will also have the reality aspect. I told them, “I’ll be like your happy, peaceful Zen person on the show.” You might catch Rob and my cazyness at the gym. But that’s about all I know right now about what’s going on with it.

MATT: That sounds like that would be a great show. I would love that.

LUCKY: Yeah, so it’s looking like it should be pretty cool, so we’ll see how it all pans out here.

MATT: I hope that it gets picked up. It sounds like a big hit to me.

LUCKY: I’m hoping that it does as well. I guess we’ll find out in November or the end of the year.

MATT: Well, good luck with Man of the Year.

LUCKY: Thank you very, very much. I appreciate it. My ultimate goal is to like an Og Mandino and Zig Ziglar and become an author down the road. I’d like to write inspirational books as well.

MATT: Have you started writing anything yet?

LUCKY: A little bit. I’m going to do a book about my experiences about knowing I was gay when I was younger and suppressing my feelings. I grew up in a small town, and that’s kind of how this whole experience has happened up until this point. So, it’s kind of like a biography with motivational things in there that people can relate to that say that they might be afraid or different. Because I feel that no matter what it is, whether it’s motivational or learning, no matter what you want to find out or achieve in your life, you can always find it in a book and it will help you out. I know for myself, I’ll read a little bit and I feel really good. You get really into the books and it’s just kind of cool that you understand these principles that are explained in them.

MATT: They are such common sense principles too, once you read them.

LUCKY: I know, that’s what I thought too. Our minds by nature over-complicate everything so we over-think things. If you dumb down your mind in a way and you just think about things in life that are very basic, like how to control your happiness; it’s within your full control, and the power of choice and all these different little things.

MATT: Absolutely. I appreciate your time. Have a great night!

LUCKY: I appreciate you doing the interview.

MATT: Tell Rob I said hello.

LUCKY: I will. I’ll see him later tonight. You have a great day.

MATT: You too.
